Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham
Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham, also called Wat Mai or Wat May, is a Buddhist temple famous for exquisitely complex carved black lacquer and gold leaf artwork. Situated near Royal Palace Museum, it is considered the largest and the most richly decorated of all the temples in Luang Pranbang.
Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham was built in the 18th century, housing an emerald Buddha statue sits inside the interior. The design of Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham obeys the the standard Luang Prabang style. But the architectural style of the roofed front veranda in the temple is thought to be weird, with the gables angled towards the sides of the chapel rather than towards the front, which titillates the curiosity of people.
