Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam is a hydro-electric power station that spans the Yangtze River, and it’s the world’s largest of its kind in terms of installed capacity. Included in the Three Gorges region, the Three Gorges Dam attracts global attention by its cultural and environmental impact on the Yangtze River and the region, and a visit to the Dam is usually a major event during a Yangtze River Cruise.

Fully functional as of July 2012, the Three Gorges Dam is 2,335m long and the top of the dam 185m above sea level. The Dam is about 27km upstream from Yichang City, which takes about 40 minutes’ drive. On a clear day visitors can get a complete view of the enormous dam, huge reservoir accompanied by the splendid Yangtze River and the surrounding mountain scenery.
