Phimeanakas

Phimeanakas, also called Vimeanakas, is a Hindu temple in the Khleang style, standing close to the center of a walled area that once housed the royal place, which left little except for two sand stone pools near the northern wall. It is fronted to the east by the Terrace of Elephants. The northwestern wall is very atmospheric, with immense trees and jungle vines cloaking the outer side, easily visible on a forest walk from Preah Palilay to Phimeanakas Temple.

Built at the end of the 10th century during the reign of Rajendravarman, Phimeanakas Temple is said that it was once topped by a golden spire. Phimeanakas Temple is a pyramidal representation of Mt Meru, with three levels. On top of the pyramid there was a tower. Most of the decorative features are broken or disappeared. It is still worth clambering up to the second and third level for the good views of Baphuon Temple.
